This guide was developed and principally written for the American Cancer Society ("the Society") and the International Union Against Cancer by Mike Pertschuk, Advocacy Institute; with research, writing, and editing support by Jessica Lazar, Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids ("the Campaign" or CTFK). Substantial reviews, insights, additional writing and edits were also contributed by Yussuf Saloojee, Jim Shulz, Ross Hammond Debra Ephroymson, Shoba John, Mary Assunta, and Philip Karugaba.
In addition to Jessica Lazar and Ross Hammond, the entire
international tobacco control team of the Campaign contributed to
the guide and to the companion website. Jenny Foreit supervised
the development of the website and provided many of the insightful quotes
included throughout the guide. These were drawn from interviews
with tobacco control advocates around the world conducted by Jenny
Foreit and Garrett Mehle of WHO. Judy Wilkenfeld, and Jenny Foreit
reviewed the drafts and added many insights and links gained from
their intensive work with the Framework Convention Alliance.
The guide also draws extensively upon CTFK's exhaustive "taxonomy" project in which CTFK set out to catalogue the hundreds of guides and other resources developed for tobacco control advocates over the past twenty years. This project enabled the developers of this guide to identify and provide links to the most useful advocacy arguments, guides, and other resources. Within the Cancer Society, guidance, editing, design, and publication were supported by the Society's international tobacco control team: Nathan Grey, Tom Glynn, and Emily Bleimund.
