Through this website, UICC, and its partners offer lessons from one generation of tobacco control advocates to you, the next generation. It has been designed as a "One Stop" resource for tobacco control advocates planning and working to achieve strong, comprehensive tobacco control laws. The website contains four strategy planning guides: #1
Strategy Planning for Tobacco Control Advocacy, #2
Strategy Planning for Tobacco Control Movement Building, #3 Enacting Strong Smoke-Free Laws: The Advocate’s Guide to Legislative Strategies, and #4 Enforcing Strong Smoke-Free Laws: The Advocate’s Guide to Enforcement Strategies. Each guide provides both practical guidance and links to other useful guides and resources. In addition to these four strategy planning guides, there are two companion guides on the website which delve into specific topics: #1 Building Public Awareness of Passive Smoking Hazards and #2 Engaging Doctors in Tobacco Control. This website contains the full text of all of the above guides as well as other resources not available elsewhere online. Translations of the guides are also available on this website. Several of the guides have already been translated into Arabic, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese. Other translations are in progress and will be posted to this website as they are completed.
We hope that you who now set out to develop
new tobacco control advocacy plans and strategies will be able to
draw lessons and inspiration from those who have succeeded before
you and, at least equally important, that you will be able to avoid
the costly and painful mistakes we made.
